Have you been used to Android devices and now made the switch to the iPhone? This can be quite a transition and you have to learn how to use your mobile device all over again. While you may think that you can learn as you go, it is often easier and quicker just to learn about what you want to do now. This way, you do not have to waste a lot of time trying to figure it out and getting frustrated.

Of course, your emails are going to be very important to you. Most people check their emails every day, particularly in the morning sorting through spam and reading everything that is important. Often, you merge all of your email inboxes onto the same mobile device so that you can keep up with personal and work emails.

On your old device, you may have been used to marking emails as read. But if you have recently switched to iPhone, you might not be sure how to do this. So, here is a guide to help you get the swing of it.

Why Should I Mark Emails as Read?

First of all, if you are not already marking your emails as read then you definitely should. This is a good way to get rid of the notifications that are showing on your iPhone. They can often make you feel stressed when you see the number constantly increased. You can also make your inbox more organized when you mark them as read since you know you have viewed them. It saves you having to delete them and you can keep the emails for later if they are important.

What’s more, in order to keep emails at the top of your priority list, you can keep them as unread. This is a good way to know the emails you still have to respond to from the ones that no longer matter.

Marking as Read on the Gmail App

If you want to keep your Gmail emails separate from other accounts you have, you may wish to download the Gmail app. This is going to have a familiar layout that you might be more comfortable using if you are still getting used to having an iPhone. Therefore, you can download this app from the App Store.

Once the app is downloaded, you can sign in when you enter the app. This is going to let you access your inbox. You can click on any email that you want to read. In order to market it as read, you need to tap on the profile of the sender. You will see this on the left of your screen. Simply click on their image and the emails that you wish to mark. On the top right of your screen, you should see an option to mark the email as Read. This is going to stop the email being in bold font and from a notification appearing on the app from the Home Screen.

If you change your mind and want to mark the email as unread again, you simply follow a similar process. Just open the message that you wish to do this to or tap on the profile image of the sender. Then you tap unread. This means that the email will be bold again and as if you had not read it.

Marking as Read on Apple Mail App

If you have several email accounts or have Gmail connected to the Apple Mail app, you may want to know how to mark them as read on there. This is going to be slightly different from the Gmail app. But the good news is that it is not complicated and it only takes a short period of time.

First of all, open the Mail app on your iPhone. Head to All Inboxes if you want to do this to more than one account. Alternatively, select your Gmail inbox from the list. Once you are here, simply tap edit, which is located at the top right of your iPhone screen. Then you want to select Mark All from the bottom left of your screen. This is going to let you select all of the messages at once that you want to mark as read. Once you have selected all of the emails, choose Mark as Read. The task was very simply and saved a lot of time.

This technique is going to save you going through all of the emails you want to appear as read. So, once you have selected the emails you want to mark as read, they will not long have a blue dot next to them in your inbox. Therefore, it will be easy to identify the emails that you need to deal with.

Should I just Delete My Emails?

Some people wonder if they should just delete emails once they have read them. Ultimately, this is going to be your decision. But there are a few things you should know first. For instance, marking emails as read is a good way to know that you have reviewed them or that they are not so important right now. They are going to stay in your inbox but they just will not appear bold or with a blue dot next to them.

If you are deleting emails, you need to be aware that this is a permanent action. Once you delete an email, after a while, there is going to be no way to get it back. This might not be what you want if you need to come back to this email and the information it has in the future. But the good thing about deleting emails is that it is going to free up space in your inbox. A lot of people also do not like the clutter and the fact that you have emails that are several years old. Just know that you cannot get them back if you do need them again.
